Because of the covid situation, we decided to stay close during sommer 2020. We chose a quick road trip to Austria. We went throught Voraldberg, Tirol, Steiermark und Kernten.
This is year 2020. The year we had planned a magnificent trip to the USA, visiting some very promising national parks. However, as I said, this is year 2020, and due to the COVID-19 situation, our trip was cancelled. So, since we couldn’t/wouldn’t/didn’t want to fly, we organized a roadtrip to Austria. We originally planned a two weeks trip but since this is a unfortunate year, we had to shorten our vacation and get back home after a week.
The places we visited during those 7 days were so beautiful, that we strongly intend to get back to this incredible nature, and finish our visits. Maybe next spring. In the meantime, you can have a quick look at the pictures I took in the tyrolean villages, lakes, Innsbruck, Weissensee, the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, Graz and Linz. Our next trip should include Hallstatt, Salzburg and the Salzkammergut, plus all surrounding visits. We look forward to it.
around innsbruck
After a quick night in Bregenz, we stopped for a couple of days in Innsbruck.
Day1: We started with the Rosengartenschlucht, the canyon can be visited by walking on wood structures, sometimes climbing stairs. Then, we passed by the Blindsee and Am Plansee.
Day 2: We made an early visit to the Piburger See and then went on to visit the Stuibenfall waterfall. The afternoon was dedicated to another canyon, most beautiful, the Leutaschklamm. Fantastic walk alongside and above the water.
Day 3: We drove to Alpbach and visited the region. (We also attempted to visit the Swarovski Crystal world but it was closed).
Day 4: We drove from Innsbruck to Weissensee, passing by the incredible Grossglockner High Alpine Road. In the afternoon, we made a splash in the lake!

Day 5: We drove to Graz and visited Graz.
Day 6: We drove to Linz, visited the Monastery of the Canons Regular of St. Florian, then went on to the harbor and visited the Mural Harbour Gallery.
Day 7: We wanted to visit the Ars Electronica Museum but it was closed, so we took some height and visited Linzer Hohenrausch. The tour included a visit of the computer arts’s competition winners, amongst Linz Art students. This was a great experience. The rooftop visit was also impressive. Then, from Linz, we drove to the Alpbachtahl and visited different very typical places, had a great Wienerschnitzel mit Kartoffelsalat and finished with an Applestrudel 🙂
Day 8: Due to our cat’s health we had to drive back home.
