We organized a trip with our friends to indulge in our shared interests of trail running and photography. Our plan was to spend a week exploring the breathtaking island of Madeira.
Our itinerary included many trails in the levada's, a track adventure from Pico do Ruivo to Pico do Arieiro, a trail on Punto do Sao Lorenzo and stops at scenic spots like the Fanal pond and various mountain peaks. Along the way, we captured some photos and made the most of our time on the island.
Mountains
The hike between Pico do Areeiro and Pico Ruivo offers a spectacular experience as you traverse through peaks while batteling the shiffting clouds in search of sunshine. As you hike from Pico do Areeiro, you will witness breathtaking vistas and dramatic landscapes. The rugged terrain and the steep slopes add an element of adventure to your journey. Between the two peaks, you'll often experience a captivating interplay of mist and sunshine. The haze gracefully waves its way to the mountainous terrain, creating an etheral athmosphere. It's magestic, it's pure, it's beautiful and it's so fun to hike, I can only recommend it.
FANAL POND
The Fanal Forest in Madeira is known for its enchanting beauty, and one of its captivating features is the occasional appearance of a mysterious fog or mist that surrounds the trees. This ethereal phenomenon creates an atmosphere of intrigue and adds to the forest's magical ambiance. As the mist swirls through the dense foliage, it softens the sunlight, casting an otherworldly glow and lending an air of mystery to the surroundings. Walking through the misty forest, one might feel transported to a realm where reality and fantasy blend together, making the experience truly enchanting.
LEVADAS
Levadas are a unique and iconic feature of Madeira. They are narrow irrigation channels that crisscross the island, designed to carry water from the mountains to agricultural areas. These channels have also become popular hiking trails, offering incredible opportunities to explore Madeira's stunning landscapes, including dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and breathtaking viewpoints.

The Levada Caleirão Verde is one of the well known levada walks in Madeira. It takes you through a lush green paradise, offering a forestal experience. The trail begins in Queimadas, near Santana, and winds its way through enchanting laurel forests and scenic valleys.
PUNTA SAO LOURENCAO
Punta do Sao Lourencao is a scenic promontory located in Madeira, Portugal. It offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, dramatic cliffs, and lush greenery. The rugged coastline and picturesque landscape make it a popular spot for visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the region.
The drone soars high above Punta do Sao Lourencao, capturing a magnificent view of the rugged coastline and the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. The cliffs, standing tall and imposing, showcase their sheer beauty as they drop dramatically into the deep blue and green waters below.
